"Share the Harvest" Means Sharing the Warmth

Harvest time is a perfect time to spread the bountiful blessings to those who suffer lack.  Here in the Dallas area, one serious need we can address is the need of area newborns for the simple items necessary to start life off right.

On October 16 at our "Share the Harvest" Holiday Gift Market, our Charity Coordinator, Tasha Patterson, will be collecting items for Newborns in Need.  This non-profit charity collects and distributes donated items ranging from preemie hats to nursery furniture to the families of newborns in the Dallas area.   We thought, since a lot of us are knitters, crocheters, weavers, and seamstresses, that we could donate what we love to make - baby afghans, or squares for afghans.  The yarns used should be cotton or acrylic for ease of care and to avoid allergy issues.  We have volunteers standing by to assemble 9" squares into baby blankets as enough are donated.

There's a month between now and the Gift Market... could you crank out a couple of squares from your stash?  It would be awesome.  If you have time to whip up a whole baby blanket, or a layette, or just a hat, it would be greatly appreciated.  They'll even take fabric and sewing notions for someone else to make a blanket.  Cool, huh?

If you have any questions about this project, contact Tasha.  This is a great way to start your fall by paying it forward, and providing a desperate answer for one of our own area's tiniest and most vulnerable people.
